CCSi VoIP is carried over your broadband connection as opposed to traditional landlines. Consequently, it is important to note that there are certain situations in which CCSi VoIP 911 service will not be available in cases of emergency. This also applies to an on-premise phone system where you use a broadband connection for your voice channels; your 911 calls will similarly be impacted.
For example, if you experience a broadband outage your ability to make and receive calls will fail as will your ability to call 911. Also if you have a power outage and do not have UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) services or a backup generator in place – you will not be able to make a 911 call.
It’s important to note that if an IP VoIP phone is physically relocated to a different site location, such as a remote regional office location or a home office other than where the VoIP phone was originally registered, then calling 911 will send address information to first responders to the site where the phone was originally registered – NOT – where the phone is currently located.
Customers that relocate their VoIP phones to different locations must inform CCSi Communications before moving their phone(s) so that their VoIP phone registration address can be updated with the address where the phone is physically relocated. If this is not possible for whatever reason, alternate means of accessing 911 services at non-registered locations will need to be determined and communicated to people who may access the phone at the new location.
